EasyLayouts Required
Custom 403 - Forbidden Pages

EasyLayouts offers the ability to completely customise the Joomla 403 access denied page.  The EasyLayouts plugin for YOOtheme Pro brings this capability to YOOtheme.

Beautiful 403 pages that convey the information you give you visitors in a style that matches your site!

The custom 403 page works by
  • Configuring a suitable hidden menu item
  • Configuring EasyLayouts to use thie menu item for 403 pages
  • Using YOOtheme to customise the template for thie menu item

Create Hidden Menu Item

Create a hidden menu item that can be configured to display the 403/access forbidden page. A single article view works well.
Remember to mark the menu item as not displayed in the menu.

Configure 403 Error Page

No need to create any EasyLayouts layouts - all you need is to open the configuration Options in YOOtheme.
On the 'Error and Offline Pages' panel select the hidden menu item you created.

Customise 403 Page

Using YOOtheme you can now customise this 403 menu item using the Template Builder. The menu item specific templates addon is helpful to allow us to force YOOtheme to use this layout on our 403 page.

Test 403 Page

Try to access a menu item or action in the frontend which you are not authorised to access - e.g. an article edit page
You should now see the custom 403 page when you view this link.
p.s. Remember to make sure you're not logged or logged as a restricted access user in the frontend to do this test.
