Template Locking

Do sometimes find that you want to allow your clients to making changes only in some template and to keep some 'structural' template locked so the client can only change 'content related' templates?
Do you or your colleagues accidentally change templates by mistake e.g. working your live site instead of a staging site or changing a template not realising the effect the changes have on other site pages.
With the EasyLayouts Template Versioning and Locking plugin you can now easily lock your templates so that changes can only be made when a template is actively 'unlocked' and stopping your clients from changing specific locked templates.

Locking a Template

When a site administrator opens an unlocked template we see a gree 'unlocked' icon which can be clicked to lock the template.
Once the icon is clicked we are told that the template is now locked.

A Locked Template is Highlighted

When a template it locked we see a red 'lock' icon and no one can make changes to the template (unless it is unlocked of course).
It is also highlighted as locked in the list of templates. You can still click through to view the template structure - but can make no changes to it.

Template is Fully Locked for Non Site Administrators

When a user who is not a site administrator opens the template they are unable to unlock the template and can make no changes to it.

Click Lock Icon to Unlock

Site administrators can unlock the template by clicking the red lock icon in the template.
You will be prompted to reload the template after unlocking it in order to make changes,
